Start with the problem
Write down who the software is for, what they struggle with today, and what a successful first version should make easier. If you cannot explain the problem in a few sentences, the build will drift.
Decide the first version
List must-have features for launch and keep later ideas in a separate “later” list. A smaller first version is easier to price, test, and launch.
Confirm users, data, and integrations
Note who logs in, what data you already have, and which tools the software must connect to, such as payments, email, or an existing CRM.
Set a realistic timeline
Most business websites take weeks. Custom portals and apps usually take a few months. Leave room for content, reviews, and testing.
